A Senior Database Administrator with expertise in PostgreSQL, automation skills, AWS would be responsible for the following tasks:
A Day in The Life Typically Includes:
1. Management and maintenance of multiple databases, including PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MSSQL Server and OpenEdge, to ensure their optimal performance, security, and reliability.
2. Design and implementation of automation strategies to streamline database administration processes and minimize manual errors, utilizing AWS CLI and other scripting languages.
3. Deployment and management of databases on Amazon Web Services (AWS), including Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, EC2 instances, and S3 storage.
4. Implementation of data backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery plans, and high availability solutions using AWS services.
5. Performance tuning and optimization of database systems to ensure they can handle large amounts of data and support high-traffic applications.
6. Design and implementation of security protocols, such as firewalls, encryption, and role-based access control, to protect sensitive data in AWS and Azure.
7. Collaboration with development teams to integrate databases into software applications and provide guidance on best practices for database design and implementation.
8. Management of database schema updates and version control.
9. Monitoring and reporting of database performance metrics, and identification of trends and potential issues.
10. Mentorship and supervision of junior database administrators.
11. Writing and documenting the technical runbooks, processes and procedures.
12. Taking part in performing monthly consolidated maintenances during office hours and after office hours to perform patching, updates and upgrades on Database resources.
Required skills:
1. US Citizen / Permanent Resident (Greencard holders)
2. Strong experience with PostgreSQL database administration, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security.
3. Knowledge of MSSQL server with handling day to day database activities.
4. Experience with AWS services, such as RDS, EC2, S3, IAM, and AWS CLI.
5. Experience with automation and scripting tools such as Shell, Powershell, and Python.
6. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
7. Strong knowledge of SQL and ability to write complex queries.
8. Experience with database migration and replication.
9. Good understanding of database architecture and design.
10. A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
11. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of database automation using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef is a plus.
2. Knowledge of MSSQL Server, Cassandra, OpenEdgeis a big advantage.
3. Knowledge and experience of other RDBMS such as SQL Server and Oracle is a plus.
4. Knowledge of government compliances and standards such as GDPR and HIPPA is a plus.
Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Monocle, Sumologic, Splunk, CloudWatch is a plus
