What You'll Do

Our ideal Sr. Systems Engineer is detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has a strong track record of modern systems engineering, to deliver a world class experience in a large scale enterprise environment. While primarily focused on systems engineering, success in this role also requires ensuring the technology we are delivering through Microsoft 365 and SharePoint continuously evolves to meet our internal customer’s rapidly changing needs and objectives. Additionally the ability to interact with peers, leadership, and customers at a global scale is required. Our desired candidate will need to have the knowledge and expertise to support solutions serving both in-office and remote Avalara employees.

• Provide engineering and administration of SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365
• Optimize site topology for teams, intranet, communities and projects to meet changes in business and collaboration needs
• Engineer and manage permissions, groups, sharing, security and governance
• Design and maintain backup, restore, disaster recovery and ransomware capabilities
• Engineer productivity integration supporting other M365 apps and services
• Act as a subject matter expert for SharePoint internal business application and business process automation integrations leveraging workflow and Power Automate
• Accustomed to maintaining documentation libraries, capturing business processes, creating storyboards and training materials
• Produce metrics on usage statistics and measuring end user experience

What You'll Need to be Successful

BA/BS degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical SharePoint administration experience with a minimum 7+ years of experience. Comfortable with managing technology solutions for a large scale global workforce.

• Strong understanding of the Microsoft 365 platform and collaboration suite
• Experienced with scripting languages such as powershell or python
• Have worked in an Agile environment within Atlassian Jira
• Available to travel periodically

Our ideal Engineer is solutions-oriented with a genuine interest in problem-solving and troubleshooting.  They exhibit proven experience in an end-user facing role with exceptional customer service support and an ability to maintain a professional and appropriate demeanor in all situations.  They must be self-motivated and able to grasp technology and concepts quickly with the ability to participate in an on-call rotation for break fix, upgrades and installations. You also must work well in a team environment and be willing to assist other team members when needed.
