Award : Team Techbotics - Winner of Makeathon under TechnoVIT 2019
Issuer : School of Electricaland Electronics Engineering - VIT Chennai
Date : 9 2019
Summary : Team Techboticswon first place in Makeathon where we made a prototype addressing the Problem Statement : "Wireless IoT control in remote/hazardous areas. Implemented a simple IoT application/device controlled through wireless means of propagation (operated wirelessly)."Prototype was accompanied with 2 android apps for control, enabling user to control wireless bot either by voice using Google Voice API and another app with buttons for navigation. Bot had sensors for detecting temperature, humidity and pressure and harmful gases in mines. Bot was capable of mounting any smartphone as well as USB camera for capturing video. We preferred to have smartphone camera because we designed a wireless control unit which could be controlled from laptop and was able to get simultaneous video feeds from front and rear camera as opposed to traditional cameras which provides video of only what's ahead of the bot, we were able to control other camera parameters in real time such as zoom, rear camera LED, motion sensing even in 80% dark conditions along with tracking real time GPS location to map the coordinates using Google Maps API with an error rate of at most 50 metres . In case of rescue or emergency for easy retrieval of location of bot we felt the need of GPS module.Another major feature which gave us edge over other teams competing with us on this problem statement was object detection model which I worked on using Neural Networks trained on YOLO on Control Station where video feed is being received for identifying multiple objects in the incoming feed as well as streaming the video on cloud from the bot so that anyone who is authorized or with credentials can sign up/log in to a portal and see the live video feed that is being captured by bot.Along with this we designed a fully functional eCommerce platform where potential customers can see our robots and they can buy/rent as per their needs.
